As temperature increases, the sensor's resistance rises proportionally. This well-defined resistance-temperature relationship ensures consistent, repeatable performance over time. RTDs are passive devices that require external electronic instrumentation to measure resistance by applying a small electrical current (typically 1 mA or less, with a maximum of 5 mA to prevent self-heating) and monitoring the resulting voltage output.
